In the middle of the rapids, it is very important for the athlete to keep concentration and have an overview of the course. The main goal was to capture the rider when he was looking straight at the camera and with the arms and paddle framing the head. As with most of the close shots, this one was made with the 500mm prime lens. It proved challenging to get the composition right, but also rewarding when I learned to anticipate the movement of the rider. Overall, it was a great experience, and I learned a lot about how to shoot with long lenses and how to communicate with top athletes.
