“When pho­tograph­ing wa­ter­falls, it can be easy to blow the high­lights of white wa­ter in your scenes – th­ese ar­eas can end up very over-ex­posed and con­tain no de­tail,” warns Morag, “To avoid blown high­lights, I sug­gested Janet en­able the High­light Alert in the blue menu on her Canon DSLR. Any ar­eas blown start to blink, so we in­creased our shut­ter speed so our ex­po­sure would cap­ture de­tail in the wa­ter. When pro­cess­ing your im­ages, you can al­ways se­lec­tively brighten the shad­ows, leav­ing de­tail in the high­lights in white wa­ter.”
