Tim was an expert at positioning his lights to light the birds perfectly and it shows in how each light has done its job here for the Great Grey Owl’s amazing plumage and wings. He’s also a genius at getting interesting expressions from the wildlife. This shot was a case of timing. With the owl perching on the handler’s arm, we asked the handler to rotate his arm slightly, the owl would then spread its wings as it settled itself. Luckily at the same time the owl looked curiously at the camera as I took the shot. I shot in landscape format and from the back of the studio to allow for the width of the bird’s huge wings to fit in the frame.
