Wildlife photograph­y stirs up imagery of far flung destinatio­ns and shooting from secret hides. But, with our tips and a telephoto zoom lens, you can take great images of your feathered friends from the comfort of your own back garden.

The UK enjoys a variety of bird species, many of which are regular visitors to the typical UK garden. From blackbirds and robins, to blue tits and wrens, the problem photograph­ers are faced with though is how to get framefilli­ng shots without scaring these often skittish subjects away. The good news is that it’s not as difficult as you may imagine and to stack the odds in your favour. I’m going to run through some tips and tricks that’ll improve your practical approach and your camera technique for bird shoots.

Wildlife photograph­y requires a certain amount of patience, so the more time you can put in, the better shots you’ll get!
