Federal three-year funding boost to cut bushfire risk
Federal Justice Minister Michael Keenan has announced $904,000 in funding over three years to help reduce the bushfire risk in WA.
Mr Keenan said it was vital the Commonwealth partnered with WA to better prepare local communities for bushfires through enhanced mitigation.
“Bushfires are a fact of life in Australia and they can be devastating for the communities in their path,” Mr Keenan said.
“We’re funding projects that will help to minimise risks to communities from bushfires and reduce the costs of reconstruction and recovery.
State Acting Emergency Services Minister Liza Harvey said the funding would be allocated through a local grants scheme to help organisations reduce the threat from bushfire.
“They will help protect communities by funding projects such as the installation of fire-breaks, prescribed burning and bushfire awareness campaigns,” she said.
The grants program will be administered by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
