NW teams go to battle for Carnival glory
Basketball teams from across the North West are training hard and preparing to battle it out at this year’s Onslow Basketball Carnival over two days, on August 28-30.
The carnival is co-ordinated through the joint collaboration of the Shire of Ashburton, BHP Billiton and Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation, with the event aimed at promoting great sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle.
With some of WA’s best basketball and sporting champions in town for the carnival, players and spectators will be able to mix with these elite athletes in a variety of workshops and community activities.
Former Wildcats captain Brad Robbins and former West Coast Eagle Travis Gaspar will be on hand to share their skills and talent and enjoy the thrill of the carnival competition.
Shire of Ashburton president Kerry White said the carnival was a highlight on the local sporting calendar each year, with teams travelling to Onslow from across the North West.
“Each year the carnival gets bigger and bigger, with players and their families enjoying the competition, the coaching clinics and the community fun,” she said.
“It really is so much more than just a sporting event.”
If you haven’t registered your team, don’t miss out as there are limited places available and plenty of fun to be had both on and off the court.
Team nominations are open for the following categories:
■ Junior boys and girls under-13 years. ■ Youth boys and girls 13-17 years. ■ Senior men and women over-17 years.
Registration forms are available from the Onslow Shire office, the Onslow Multi-Purpose Centre and the Shire of Ashburton website at www.ashburton.wa.gov.au/.
