Mountain bikers tackle Gap Ridge
Round eight of the Burrup Mountain Bike Club’s Scott Cycles Club Championship saw 41 riders take to the course behind Baynton West on August 8.
The elite and expert course took riders from the start line behind the Baynton hills towards Gap Ridge with several tough climbs and some technical fast-flowing downhill sections between.
The return section of the course was a little flatter with only one climb, then on to some fast-flowing single track back to the start/finish line.
The sports, junior and intro categories completed a 3.3km course similar to the elite and expert for the first half of the lap, with slight variation on to some four-wheel-drive tracks on the downhill and flat single track for the return leg.
After the event a few well-earned refreshments were had before the race round presentations were held.
A gold-coin donation for the refreshments were passed on to Alana Kidd, who on September 5 will take part in the Dwellingup 100 Mountain Bike Race.
Saturday’s race was followed by Dirtmasters event on Sunday morning. Dirtmasters caters for riders from the ages of three to 12.
This session was held on the Dirtmasters and skills circuits.
The 10 riders were broken into two groups, with each group taking turns to hit each of the circuits.
