Police probe first scrub fire of season
Police are treating the first scrub fire of the season, which started in the hills behind the Karratha Leisureplex, as suspicious.
The fire started early Thursday afternoon and was given the all-clear on Friday morning.
Karratha officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Geoff Cramp said they were conducting inquiries and speaking with witnesses and hoped to have a result in coming days for their investigation.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services district officer Paul Leiper said about 25 firefighters from Karratha and Roebourne were on the job.
Off road tracks around the area and the Yaburara Heritage Trail were closed.
Police are also still seeking information about a fire on the corner of 50 Brooks Way and Nickol Road which gutted a vacant house on August 15.
