Po­lice probe first scrub fire of sea­son

Po­lice are treat­ing the first scrub fire of the sea­son, which started in the hills be­hind the Kar­ratha Leisure­plex, as sus­pi­cious.

The fire started early Thurs­day af­ter­noon and was given the all-clear on Fri­day morn­ing.

Kar­ratha of­fi­cer-in-charge Se­nior Sergeant Ge­off Cramp said they were con­duct­ing in­quiries and speak­ing with wit­nesses and hoped to have a re­sult in com­ing days for their in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

Depart­ment of Fire and Emer­gency Ser­vices dis­trict of­fi­cer Paul Leiper said about 25 fire­fight­ers from Kar­ratha and Roe­bourne were on the job.

Off road tracks around the area and the Yabu­rara Her­itage Trail were closed.

Po­lice are also still seek­ing in­for­ma­tion about a fire on the cor­ner of 50 Brooks Way and Nickol Road which gut­ted a va­cant house on Au­gust 15.
