Players proud of Hawaiian performance
Four Karratha Water Polo Association members have recently returned to the Pilbara after taking part in the highly competitive Hawaii Invitational Water Polo tournament.
Karratha’s Alex Dobbin and Byron Newbold and Tom Price player Mason Watts were selected to play for Australia after strong performances in the Australian Country Championships at the Karratha Leisureplex in March.
They competed against teams from all around the world in the six-day competition in Waikiki.
Karratha player and coach Gary Vincent was also selected to manage the Australian women’s side.
Vincent said the Karratha players played a crucial role in their teams’ performance and contributed admirably to the competition.
“Both the men and women’s teams placed fourth overall,” he said.
“It was the first time all four members represented their country in Water Polo and they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“The players were playing alongside the best the Australian Country Water Polo has to offer — they should be very proud of their performances in the pool.”
On behalf of the four players, Vincent thanked sponsors, family and friends who had helped raise funds for the trip.
Karratha water polo players are now gearing up for the upcoming season, starting at the Karratha Leisureplex on Thursday, September 10.
New members are welcome and registrations are still open for the 2015-16 season.
If you missed out on the first Come and Try Day on Sunday, there will be a second session open to beginners this Sunday.
