Port Walcott Surf Lifesaving Club kicked off their first meeting with games and ice-cream in Dampier at the weekend.

A small group met on Sunday morning at the same time patrons started trickling into the Karratha Bikers Association’s motor show at Hampton Oval next door.

The group were put through their paces on the sand in team relays and the ever-popular flags race. There was a bit of a twist to keep everyone cool on the day though, with children and dads commando-crawling the first few metres to a plate of quickly melting ice-cream.

After finishing the ice-cream without using their hands, it was onto their feet to a race to a single flag to determine the winners.

Club president Kate Turner thanked everyone for turning up and getting involved.

Chloe Terry, 8, Taylah Hooper, 7, and Cleo Cullen, 7, dive for the flag.
