Survey on Onslow boating precinct opens

Pilbara News - - News - Peter de Kruijff

■ A draft concept plan of a community boating precinct in Onslow has been released and a community survey opened to the public.

The Department of Transport has been working with the Shire of Ashburton to develop a plan for the upgrade and improvement of facilities at Beadon Creek.

At the moment there are no boat pens for recreational and charter vessels in the Beadon Creek Maritime Facility.

A DoT spokesman said the proposed development would provide a community boating facility including accommodation for vessels and a recreational location for the community.

“It is envisaged that this type of facility would provide tourism, socio-economic and community benefits to Onslow and the wider Pilbara region,” he said.

“A land use framework for the harbour has been developed and an area for a community boating precinct has been identified.

“The Onslow Community Boating Precinct Working Group has endorsed a draft concept plan for the boating precinct which is currently the subject of a community survey to determine the level of support and interest in the project.”

The Shire of Ashburton is helping develop a business case for the project and the information from the survey will help support it

Ashburton president Kerry White said a marina would showcase the beauty of the WA coast and enhance lifestyle and tourism opportunities.

The survey can be found online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/ OnslowPens.
