Art’s home in the heart

■ The Dampier Com­mu­nity As­so­ci­a­tion is call­ing for lo­cal artists to put brush to can­vas, pen to pa­per and hand to clay for the highly an­tic­i­pated 2015 Dampier Art Awards.

The 2014 Dampier Art Awards saw 31 artists en­ter a pieces in the well renowned lo­cal ex­hi­bi­tion.

For this year’s theme, “Home is where the Heart is”, artists are be­ing asked to con­sider the in­ter­play be­tween heart and home, draw­ing in­spi­ra­tion from these con­cepts when cre­at­ing their works.

DCA pres­i­dent Ge­or­gia Evans said the Dampier Art Awards had been a pop­u­lar an­nual event on the lo­cal so­cial cal­en­dar since start­ing in 2010.

“The Dampier Art Awards show­case and celebrate the di­verse range of artis­tic tal­ent we have not only in Dampier, but the broader re­gion,” she said.“I’m look­ing for­ward to see­ing the cre­ative in­ter­pre­ta­tions of this year’s … theme.”

Artists from within the City of Kar­ratha re­gion are in­vited to sub­mit works in the fol­low­ing six cat­e­gories: ■ Dampier Art Award theme — “Home is where the Heart is” — any medium. ■ Pil­bara Land­scape — any medium. ■ Por­trait — any medium. ■ Ab­stract — any medium. ■ Three Di­men­sional Art (i.e.sculp­ture) with a sub-cat­e­gory for Re­cy­cled Art. ■ Youth — any medium — 16 to 18 years old.

En­tries will be open un­til Oc­to­ber 30. The Awards Ex­hi­bi­tion open­ing night and judg­ing will take place in Novem­ber, with all cat­e­gories at­tract­ing a mod­est cash prize.
