Art’s home in the heart
■ The Dampier Community Association is calling for local artists to put brush to canvas, pen to paper and hand to clay for the highly anticipated 2015 Dampier Art Awards.
The 2014 Dampier Art Awards saw 31 artists enter a pieces in the well renowned local exhibition.
For this year’s theme, “Home is where the Heart is”, artists are being asked to consider the interplay between heart and home, drawing inspiration from these concepts when creating their works.
DCA president Georgia Evans said the Dampier Art Awards had been a popular annual event on the local social calendar since starting in 2010.
“The Dampier Art Awards showcase and celebrate the diverse range of artistic talent we have not only in Dampier, but the broader region,” she said.“I’m looking forward to seeing the creative interpretations of this year’s … theme.”
Artists from within the City of Karratha region are invited to submit works in the following six categories: ■ Dampier Art Award theme — “Home is where the Heart is” — any medium. ■ Pilbara Landscape — any medium. ■ Portrait — any medium. ■ Abstract — any medium. ■ Three Dimensional Art (i.e.sculpture) with a sub-category for Recycled Art. ■ Youth — any medium — 16 to 18 years old.
Entries will be open until October 30. The Awards Exhibition opening night and judging will take place in November, with all categories attracting a modest cash prize.
