Late start expected for rain

Pilbara News - - News - Tom Zaunmayr

■ Those in the Pilbara hoping for early rains will be left disappointed, as the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a late start to the monsoon season, particularly in coastal areas of the region.

BOM data suggests a 25 to 35 percent chance of early rainfall on the North West coast, but eastern areas have a 50/50 chance of early northern rainfall onset.

Just 7.6mm of rain fell in Karratha this winter, its lowest figure since 2010; 25mm fell in Paraburdoo from June to August and 2.2mm of rain was recorded in Port Hedland.

BOM is predicting near average conditions for spring in the Pilbara.
