Judges: Baynton West a ‘welcoming oasis’

Baynton West has been named the best residential development over 250 lots in the WA Urban Development Institute of Australia Awards for Excellence. LandCorp chief executive Frank Marra said the suburb was quickly developing into a vibrant and diverse neighbourhood.

“Just five years ago, the only option for many in Karratha was to live in a donga camp or sleep in someone’s living room,” he said.

“Alongside projects delivered by the private sector in Karratha, Baynton West has been a major contributor in alleviating the town’s housing shortage.

“We were pleased the judges referred to the development as a “welcoming oasis,” as this recognised our commitment to provide the community with the same features regularly seen in metropolitan area estates.”

Mr Marra said the suburb had provided economic benefits to Karratha such as a new primary school, family centre and work for local businesses.
