■ Students, parents and teachers gathered at the Ibis Styles Karratha for the Karratha Young Writers competition award ceremony last Friday.

The competition, which is in its second year, attracted more than 500 entries from students at Pegs Creek Primary, Karratha Primary, Millars Well Primary, Baynton West Dampier Primary and Pannawonica Primary schools.

Pegs Creek Primary principal Shiona Hobart said the competition was a celebration of the quality teaching in schools around the Pilbara.

All competition entries will be on display at Karratha Public Library this week.
