Kats and Rec Club tie match

Karratha Kats and Rec Club have played a rare tie in the West Pilbara Cricket Association’s Twenty20 competition.

Chasing 112 for victory at Millars Well, Rec Club managed to equal the Kats total, albeit with two fewer wickets in hand.

The Kats went out to bat first and things were not looking good early as Luke Sullivan (3-19) and Richard Anderson (1-13) tore through the top order.

Nino Sturgeon (4) joined opener Patrick Richards (54 not out) at the crease with the score at 3-24.

Sturgeon failed to make much of an impact on the scoreboard this time, but watched as Richards started to push the envelope.

The partnership ended with the score on 63, but Richards continued with the lower-middle order to see the Kats’ innings close at 6-112.

In response, Rec Club slumped to 419 courtesy of a brutal spell from George Du Preez (3-10).

Steve Boyce (46 not out) and Ben Fulton (29) then took to the crease and looked to be wrestling control of the match from the home side.

But a brilliant spell of bowling from Sam Robinson (3-26) pegged the Rec Club back a notch as they failed to fire in the final overs.
