Krakens make good start
new women’s water polo team got off to a “Kraken” start to the season at the Karratha Leisureplex last Thursday evening, with a 5-4 win over champions the Barracudas.
At three-quarter time the game was drawn at 3-3, but in the end the Krakens got over the line after an outstanding performance by Ashleigh Homes and Jessica Newbold, who both scored in the last quarter.
Homes was voted fairest and best for the Krakens, followed by Barracudas’ Julie-Anne Elkins and Krakens’ Nicki Lampard.
The Cudas had better luck in their first game, defeating the Pirates 4-3. Fairest and best was awarded to Barracudas’ Lily Moore and Kylie Vial and Anouska Angove received a vote from the Pirates.
The Krakens men’s side have also set the bar high, taking out Barracudas 9-5.
Fairest and best went to ByThe ron Newbold, Reece Child and Dean Murray.
It was a disappointing start to the season for the men’s Pirates side, who forfeited against the Barracudas.
