Krak­ens make good start

new women’s wa­ter polo team got off to a “Kraken” start to the sea­son at the Kar­ratha Leisure­plex last Thurs­day evening, with a 5-4 win over cham­pi­ons the Bar­racu­das.

At three-quar­ter time the game was drawn at 3-3, but in the end the Krak­ens got over the line af­ter an out­stand­ing per­for­mance by Ash­leigh Homes and Jes­sica New­bold, who both scored in the last quar­ter.

Homes was voted fairest and best for the Krak­ens, fol­lowed by Bar­racu­das’ Julie-Anne Elkins and Krak­ens’ Nicki Lam­pard.

The Cu­das had bet­ter luck in their first game, de­feat­ing the Pi­rates 4-3. Fairest and best was awarded to Bar­racu­das’ Lily Moore and Kylie Vial and Anouska An­gove re­ceived a vote from the Pi­rates.

The Krak­ens men’s side have also set the bar high, tak­ing out Bar­racu­das 9-5.

Fairest and best went to ByThe ron New­bold, Reece Child and Dean Mur­ray.

It was a dis­ap­point­ing start to the sea­son for the men’s Pi­rates side, who for­feited against the Bar­racu­das.
