Project would create many jobs: Aurizon
■ The West Pilbara Infrastructure Project will create more than 2000 construction jobs if it goes ahead, according to Aurizon infrastructure project director Paul Hoffman. Mr Hoffman said Aurizon was expecting construction to start in 2017, with a view to being operational by 2020 if the company could produce a viable supply chain to warrant giving the project the green light.
“We believe there is opportunity for iron ore in this part of the world to continue to grow,” he said.
The project is in the later stages of its first-stage feasibility study, which should be finished by Christmas.
