Po­lice of­fi­cer hurt

■ A Kar­ratha po­lice of­fi­cer was back at work a day af­ter she was al­legedly hit in the face dur­ing an at­tempted ar­rest last Wed­nes­day.

Po­lice were at a Nickol home at 8am try­ing to sub­due a 24-year-old fe­male when she al­legedly be­came vi­o­lent and lashed out at the fe­male of­fi­cer, be­fore try­ing to flee. The of­fi­cer re­ceived med­i­cal at­ten­tion but re­turned to work the next day.

The 24-year-old was ar­rested on charges of as­sault­ing a public of­fi­cer, es­cap­ing law­ful cus­tody and steal­ing of­fences.

She made bail and will ap­pear in Kar­ratha Mag­is­trate’s Court at a later date.

Kar­ratha of­fi­cer-in-charge act­ing Se­nior Sergeant Si­mon Har­ri­son said a zero-tol­er­ance ap­proach was taken on po­lice, am­bu­lance staff and fire­fight­ers be­ing as­saulted.
