Frocks to replace togs at Gala event
■ Swimmers in Tom Price are swapping their togs for fancy dress at their upcoming Gala Horseracing Fundraiser Night next month.
At the gala, patrons will be treated to an elegant selection of cocktail finger food and drinks, while enjoying a punt on eight real-life horse races screened at the Tom Price Community Hall.
On entry, punters will exchange their ticket for $8000 of ‘funny money’ to bet on races throughout the evening.
Tom Price Amateur Swimming Club vice president Tracey Walawski encouraged the local community to frock up in their finest race wear to support the local swimming club.
“Ladies can pay to enter the fashion parade, there will be a prize for best dressed,” she said.
“All proceeds at the event and from ticket sales will go towards the club’s ongoing expenses for lane hire.
“We are also hoping to bring some coaches from Perth to do some clinics with our swimmers later in the year.”
Ms Walawski said the Club was hoping to better their previous year’s fundraising total of $9000.
“Every little bit of support will help towards our preparation for the Gascoyne competition in Exmouth, followed by the Pilbara Championships in Carnarvon in November,” she said. “Swimmers have been in the water training since the start of month, we took a squad of 14 to Karratha six weeks ago which was a fantastic opportunity for the kids.
“We welcome any new swimmers to join us down at the pool.”
The TPASC season runs from October 1 to April 30.
