Pi­rates dom­i­nate the pool

The third round of the Kar­ratha wa­ter polo com­pe­ti­tion was dom­i­nated by the Pi­rates, who had a win in both the male and fe­male games on Thurs­day evening.

In the first ladies match, the ex­pe­ri­ence of the Bar­racu­das out­matched the new Krak­ens team, com­ing out with four quick goals to start the first quar­ter.

From there the Cu­das pow­ered home to win 11-5, with four im­pres­sive goals from Alex Dob­bin.

Fairest and best votes went to the Bar­racu­das’ Kylie Vial, Dob­bin and Nikki Lam­pard.

In the sec­ond ladies game, the Pi­rates de­feated a tired Krak­ens team 8-5 af­ter a stand-out per­for­mance from Anouska An­gove.

An­gove’s four goals earned her three best and fairest nom­i­na­tions, fol­lowed by Natalie Hayes and Hay­ley Ed­wards from the Krak­ens.

In the men’s com­pe­ti­tion, the Krak­ens had bet­ter luck nar­rowly de­feat­ing the Bar­racu­das 8-7.

Fairest and best votes were awarded to Krak­ens’ By­ron New­bold and David Rigby, as well as Nigel Kroon­s­tu­iver af­ter his three­goal ef­fort for the Cu­das.

In the sec­ond game the Krak­ens were out­classed by the Pi­rates, los­ing the game 5-12.

Ben Bid­dis­come and Dan Glover re­ceived fairest and best votes for the Pi­rates, while the Krak­ens’ David Rigby re­ceived his sec­ond nom­i­na­tion for the evening.

Over the week­end, there was a fan­tas­tic turnout at the ju­nior flippa ball, with more than 20 kids hit­ting the pool for the first ses­sion.
