Safety road­show back

The Depart­ment of Mines and Petroleum’s mine safety road­show has re­turned to the Pil­bara.

The road­show is in Kar­ratha to­day and will spend to­mor­row and Fri­day in New­man.

Mines and Petroleum Min­is­ter Bill Mar mion said per­sonal sto­ries from fam­i­lies af­fected by work­place ac­ci­dents would fea­ture in this year’s event.

“The road­shows are an op­por­tu­nity to meet per­son­ally with mines in­spec­tors and net­work with like-minded peo­ple in­ter­ested in bet­ter safety out­comes for Western Aus­tralia’s min­ing op­er­a­tions,” he said.

“This year’s event in­cludes a spe­cial screen­ing of the sec­ond in­stal­ment in the Know Your Haz­ards video se­ries, in­clud­ing heart­felt mes­sages from peo­ple af­fected by mine site in­ci­dents.

“Th­ese videos help work­ers bet­ter un­der­stand some of the risks they face and will put them in a much bet­ter po­si­tion to recog­nise and con­trol th­ese haz­ards.”

The road­show re­flects find­ings of the Se­ri­ous In­jury Re­view, which iden­ti­fied haz­ards in­clud­ing fall­ing while work­ing from height and be­ing hit by fall­ing ob­jects.
