Triple header of events on foreshore
The Dampier foreshore will light up next weekend in a night of fire, music and lanterns.
A triple header of events will converge on with the City of Karratha and Rio Tinto’s Twilight Tunes alongside The Leukaemia Foundation Light the Night Lantern Walk and the Hampton Harbour Boat and Sailing Club Guy Fawkes fireworks extravaganza.
Guy Fawkes has been held in Dampier for more than 20 years and started as bonfire night before the days of fire bans and when it was less frowned upon to burn an effigy of a would-be English assassin.
HHBSC commodore John Lally said this year’s pyrotechnics display would of course be bigger than last year’s.
“We put some extra money in to make it a bit bigger,” he said. “Combined with the walk for the foundation and twilight tunes … it just makes one great night.”
Mayor Peter Long said it was great they could provide the community with these sorts of events.
“The Leukaemia Foundation Light the Night Lantern Walk is something very special and ties in with lantern walks happening across the country,” he said.
“This is a beautiful chance to remember and stand alongside friends and family who have been affected by Leukaemia and is a terrific fundraiser.”
The event starts at 5.30pm on November 7 at the Hampton Harbour Boat and Sailing Club.
There will also be food stalls and carnival rides for children.
The Dampier foreshore was shining bright at last year’s Guy Fawkes fireworks display.
