■ Dipper and his men have fallen short of victory for a fourth year in a row at Wickham’s annual celebrity cricket match.

Sent in to bat first, Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico’s team scored 15 before the first wicket fell and the big man strode out to the crease.

Dipper was unorthodox in his batting technique, but it paid off as he made his way to a career best of 19 before being clean bowled.

Three-time premiership-winning footballer Chris Johnson top-scored for Blue with 50.

Several of his teammates managed big totals to push their score to 6-192 at the innings break.

The Red side were off to a similar start, losing their first wicket for 16 runs.

From there the Blue side looked to be getting on top through a hat-trick to Anthony Monson, starting with exBulldogs player Doug Hawkins (8).

Red turned the screws again, though, and two big partnerships in the lower middle order pushed them over the line with a score of 8-204.

Lachie Smith top scored for Red with 57 runs.

Despite the loss, Blue received a consolation prize, with Monson winning man of the match for his 44 with the bat and hat-trick with the ball.
