Start trainee search early

Pilbara News - - Pilbara Opinion - Ellen Kay

Finding an employee that meets your business’ needs and fits your company culture can take time. To avoid disappointment or missing out on the ideal candidate, it’s important to get the search started early.

Apprenticeship Support Australia manager Lena Constantine said now was the prime time for employers to begin recruiting for their ideal apprentice or trainee.

“Starting the search for your apprentice or trainee as young people finish up with their studies provides you time and choice to find the candidate that best fits your business,” she said.

“A young person who is already searching for and is ready to apply for an apprenticeship or traineeship opportunity before the masses start looking for jobs shows great initiative.

“These candidates would be a great addition to your business.”

Once the end of year school results are released in December, the market becomes flooded with employers joining the search for apprentices and trainees.

Ms Constantine said school leavers were always looking to expand their knowledge and offering an apprenticeship or traineeship tapped into this.

“An apprenticeship or traineeship offers school leavers an opportunity to learn practical skills that will be useful throughout their careers,” she said. “Working and learning simultaneously is an attractive option for school leavers.”

Taking on an apprentice or trainee offers clear benefits to employers. It’s cost-effective for businesses and offers a strong return on investment.
