■ A middle-aged man who broke his right leg in Hamersley Gorge was the 10th person rescued by Tom Price State Emergency Service volunteers in the past 12 months.

The man had fallen off a low ledge and landed awkwardly in the Karijini National Park tourist hotspot on October 27.

Tom Price SES gorge rescue manager team leader Simon Davidson said the incident happened about 2pm.

Emergency services received the call-out about an hour later.

“It was a tricky little spot with the sloping rocks, but it’s always tricky when you’re trying to be careful with someone on a stretcher as any little touch is quite painful,” he said.

“That afternoon was pouring with rain but all did go well.”

The man was flown to Perth later that night.
