■ Exmouth IGA is undergoing longawaited works to repair damage to the store caused by Cyclone Olwyn earlier this year.

The supermarket is closed for the next few weeks, meaning locals are relying on the smaller Ningaloo IGA Xpress down the other end of the shopping centre.

Exmouth IGA owner Trevor Clarke said the roof and wall would be fixed, but no major changes would be undertaken.

“We didn’t have time to rebuild from Cyclone Olwyn before the holiday season started,” he said.

“There was a basic fix-up to get the store through tourism season and now it’s quieter we decided now is the best time. There might be longer lines at times at the other supermarket but I think the locals understand it needs to be done.”

Mr Clarke said it should be reopened by the end of November.
