Getting to know the Pilbara

Pilbara News - - News -

Shortly after Malcolm Turnbull ousted Tony Abbott to become Prime Minister of Australia, he decided to give Assistant Treasurer Josh Frydenberg a new portfolio. The rising Liberal Party star, who sits in the House of Representatives in the seat of Kooyong in Melbourne was made the new Minister for Resources, Energy and Northern Australia. He is the first Minister for Northern Australia since 1993. Mr Frydenberg visited the Pilbara last week, so we at the Pilbara News decided to put his Northern know-how to the test with a quick quiz.

When is the Pilbara mango season?

JF: When I’m ready to eat them. Correct answer: OctoberNovember.

Can you name three pubs in WA, the Northern Territory and Queensland?

JF: I was in Kalgoorlie the other day where there was the Palace Hotel, the Exchange Hotel and the Hannans Club.

What was the name of Dampier’s most famous dog?

JF: Red Dog (After being prompted with a clue from the aptly red haired Member for Durack Melissa Price.)

What is the preferred Pilbara

JF: Steel Blues. Correct answer: Thongs.

What is the preferred Pilbara currency?

JF: Australian currency. Correct answer: Bush chooks or mangoes.

Can you fish?

JF: Badly. To not know the name of the Pilbara’s most famous dog, whether you love him or not, is a crime enough in itself, but if we were to give a fair verdict on Mr Frydenberg’s answers, it would be that he could benefit from a trip to the pub after a day of tinnie bashing.
