Aus­tralia Day gongs open

Nom­i­na­tions for the 2016 Aus­tralia Day Awards are now open and the City of Kar­ratha is en­cour­ag­ing res­i­dents to nom­i­nate peo­ple or groups who have made an out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tion to the com­mu­nity over the past year.

There are six cat­e­gories in this year’s awards and the win­ners will be an­nounced at the awards break­fast be­fore the an­nual Aus­tralia Day cel­e­bra­tions at the Kar­ratha Leisure­plex on Tues­day, Jan­uary 26, 2016.

A new cat­e­gory has been in­tro­duced for this year, the Com­mu­nity Event/Ac­tiv­ity of the Year.

This year there is an op­tion for com­plet­ing an on­line nom­i­na­tion form, which has been de­signed to make it eas­ier for the com­mu­nity to nom­i­nate some­one.

Cat­e­gories now open: ■ Hori­zon Power — Cit­i­zen of the Year. ■ Wood­side Pluto LNG — Young Cit­i­zen of the Year. ■ Wood­side-op­er­ated North West Shelf Project — En­vi­ron­men­tal Award ■ Rio Tinto — Com­mu­nity Spirit Award. ■ Rio Tinto — Com­mu­nity Ser­vice Award. ■ Rio Tinto — Com­mu­nity Event/Ac­tiv­ity of the Year.

Nom­i­na­tions for the Aus­tralia Day Awards are open now and close at 5pm on Mon­day, De­cem­ber 14.

Th­ese awards are sup­ported by prin­ci­pal spon­sor Rio Tinto, as well as Hori­zon Power, Wood­side-op­er­ated North West Shelf Project and Pluto LNG.
