■ Plans to celebrate Roebourne’s 150th anniversary are well under way, with the Yirramagardu or Roebourne Community Association starting to go through and cost the suggestions made so far.

The fledgling community association, which recently applied to become incorporated, held its second meeting on Sunday, November 8.

Discussions focused on soliciting feedback for celebration ideas already submitted and fitting them into the event budget of $100 000.

Current favourites include producing T-shirts featuring a Roebourne 150th anniversary design, putting up four metal town sculptures in the main street, and creating an elders’ memory board displaying a collection of stories from Roebourne families over the past 150 years.

Community association member Michael Nikakis said the association was a grassroots project open to involvement from all residents.

Further suggestions for the anniversary will be presented at the next Roebourne community meeting on Sunday, November 22.
