Sturgeon digs deep to keep Karratha from defeat
The Karratha Kats survived a scare to remain undefeated in the 40-over competition, overcoming the Rec Club with five overs to spare.
Rec Club batted first and lost two early wickets before building a steady innings. They never managed to break the shackles thanks to some tight bowling from the likes of Michael James (3-19) and Corey Rutgers (2-11).
Set 137 to win, the Kats’ run chase could not have had a worse start.
Geoff Spence (8) and Brayden Lee (0) went quickly and none of their top four batsmen managed to make double digits.
Nino Sturgeon (45 not out) then came to the crease and went about changing the course of the game.
Sturgeon received valuable support from Jackson Davey (18), Joshua Smith (17) and captain Craig Ford (25 no) as he helped the Kats over the line at the start of the 36th over.
Teams have a bye this weekend before the Kats take on the Pegs Creek Crabs at Millars Well on November 28.
The Rec Club will play away against Wickham and the Baynton Lions will take on the Dampier Taverners at the Leisureplex.
