Reopening of popular diving spot mulled
Exmouth’s navy pier, an internationally recognised diving spot popular with tourists and locals, is still closed pending a decision on its future by the Department of Defence.
The department owns the pier and a spokesperson said they had closed the site for repairs when it was damaged by Cyclone Olwyn earlier this year. During that time the former operator’s lease over the pier expired and the department was planning to keep it closed to civilians.
The Exmouth Visitors Centre and local diving operators have since requested the pier stay open to the public because of its popularity.
The department is currently considering the proposal.
