Grants round helps community groups
Community groups in the Pilbara have received more than $9500 through the latest round of community grants from Easternwell.
Fortescue Cricket Association, Karratha Basketball Association, Newman St John Ambulance and Pilbara Community Legal Service were among the successful applicants.
Karratha Basketball Association secretary Elysia Canning said the funds would be used for referee development.
“In order to continue to provide the high quality of competi- tion, it is important we train new referees and refresh the training of our current referees so we can ensure sustainability of the game for our 550 members,” she said.
“By providing learning opportunities and community engagement experiences, we provide youth and adults the chance to extend their skills while being part of a sporting community.”
Newman St John Ambulance spokeswoman Wendy Hagan said the grant would help purchase weighted adult and toddler dummies for first aid training.
Easternwell executive general manager Tim Phelan said the program was developed to support local organisations.
“There are countless community groups in the areas where we operate who provide important services to their communities,” he said.
“Easternwell is passionate about supporting the regions where we conduct business and our grants program is one of the ways we are creating lasting benefits for communities.”
The next round of Easternwell Community Grants is in August.
