Vipers take easy win in relaxed game

Pilbara News - - Front Page - Alicia Perera

Close games and small but significant shifts around the middle of the ladder characterised round 17 as teams gave their all in the last game before the month-long Christmas break.

That said, one team had started their holidays early. The Goat Trouts forfeited to the Falcons because most of its players had already left for Christmas.

In the men’s A-grade, the Mayuga Majik and Pardoo Katz game turned into a nailbiter when the Katz crept up from behind to stun their opponents with a 37-all tie minutes before the end.

Both teams threw everything they had into scoring and Mayuga Majik won a few last precious points to just edge out the underdogs 42-39.

#Yogetit dispensed with the Coral Trouts 41-25.

In the men’s B league, the sixth-placed Titans almost pulled off an upset of their own against the Roebourne Warriors, remaining hot on their heels on the scoreboard throughout the game.

They lost by a mere four points in the end.

Thunder were back in form defeating the Cyclones 30-11 and the always-consistent Cardinals put on an impressive display against a lively Heat to win 51-30.

Meanwhile, the Vipers had an easy 50-17 win over the Flakers in a game where both sides decided to relax and enjoy their last chance to play before the break.

In women’s B grade, Just Us beat the Sinners 43-15.

Sinners’ defence against Just Us was strong but in attack they were stuck at four points for most of the game.

Rowenia Tumoana’s goal midway into the second half that broke the drought was greeted with cheers.

Second and third-placed Mud Flaps and Blazers faced off in a tense game that the Blazers’ strong performance at both ends of the court won them 30-18. Hello Trouts beat the Beavers.
