Big end to the year for Pilbara artist
One of the Pilbara’s indigenous artists has had his work chosen to be presented to the Republic of Ireland’s ambassador to the UK.
Roebourne Art Group member Gavin Snook’s painting My Country from Above was selected to be gifted to Daniel Mulhall.
Mr Snook was also announced as one of few artists to exhibit at Revealed in 2016. Revealed exhibits emerging indigenous artists across a range of mediums in WA.
RAG chief executive Rex Widerstrom said Mr Snook was the only one of six submissions to be accepted from the group this year.
“Some art centres apply year after year and no one is picked,” he said. Mr Snook follows on from Cliff Samson, who represented RAG at the event last year.
Mr Widerstrom said RAG was in a strong position, with the largest board ever assigned after a recent AGM.
