Big end to the year for Pil­bara artist

One of the Pil­bara’s in­dige­nous artists has had his work cho­sen to be pre­sented to the Repub­lic of Ire­land’s am­bas­sador to the UK.

Roe­bourne Art Group mem­ber Gavin Snook’s paint­ing My Coun­try from Above was se­lected to be gifted to Daniel Mul­hall.

Mr Snook was also an­nounced as one of few artists to ex­hibit at Re­vealed in 2016. Re­vealed ex­hibits emerg­ing in­dige­nous artists across a range of medi­ums in WA.

RAG chief ex­ec­u­tive Rex Wider­strom said Mr Snook was the only one of six sub­mis­sions to be ac­cepted from the group this year.

“Some art cen­tres ap­ply year af­ter year and no one is picked,” he said. Mr Snook fol­lows on from Cliff Sam­son, who rep­re­sented RAG at the event last year.

Mr Wider­strom said RAG was in a strong po­si­tion, with the largest board ever as­signed af­ter a re­cent AGM.
