Com­mu­nity funds boosted by 50pc

Com­mu­nity groups in the Pil­bara are be­ing en­cour­aged to ap­ply for grants through the State Govern­ment’s re­gional grants scheme and com­mu­nity chest fund.

More than $2 mil­lion in fund­ing is avail­able this year, rep­re­sent­ing a 50 per cent boost from last year.

Pil­bara De­vel­op­ment Com­mis­sion act­ing chief ex­ec­u­tive Terry Hill said or­gan­i­sa­tions with projects that at­tracted in­vest­ment, cre­ated jobs and im­proved qual­ity of life should ap­ply.

“Both the scheme and fund were very suc­cess­ful for the re­gion last year, de­liv­er­ing a di­verse range of events, projects and com­mu­nity-led ini­tia­tives that make the Pil­bara a great place to live,” he said.

There is $1.67 mil­lion avail­able through the Pil­bara Re­gional Grants Scheme, which in­vites ap­pli­ca­tions for fund­ing be­tween $50,001 and $300,000.

The Pil­bara Com­mu­nity Chest Fund of­fers a to­tal fund­ing pool of $550,000 over two rounds in 2016 for ap­pli­ca­tions up to $50,000.

Ap­pli­ca­tions for both close on March 17.

Round two of the com­mu­nity chest fund is sched­uled to open on Au­gust 1.
