Big year ahead
I hope you have had a good rest over the Christmas period because 2016 is shaping up to be just as big as 2015.
We have a long list of projects — some ongoing, some just beginning design and others about to go to tender — for construction later in the year.
For me, the highlight of 2016 will be the construction of our new Theatre, Library and Arts Precinct in Sharpe Avenue.
The opening of the Dampier Community Hub and the GP Superclinic around April/May will also be marvellous.
The actual structural work on the new hospital is planned to start in the second quarter and we are now designing the new Tambrey Pavilion, which will begin construction later in the year.
The airport forecourt and carpark upgrades will be tendered within the next few months.
These will involve planter boxes and sun shades with new traffic arrangements in the carpark to make the external part of our airport more attractive and user friendly.
We are starting design of the airport apron expansion and lighting upgrade as well.
Funding being confirmed, we intend to complete the detail design and tender construction of the Wickham Community Hub this year too.
We will begin construction of the Point Samson Foreshore public decking and lookout structure soon and will also tender the Karratha foreshore works at Searipple carpark and the Dampier foreshore Stage 1 works.
We will tender the Karratha Back Beach ramp and jetty upgrade later this year.
We will begin design of the class 3 cell at 7 Mile Waste Facility this year.
The Quarter development should be opened in July and Karratha city centre works will continue all year.
Karratha doesn’t slow down.
