The Karratha Leisureplex was the centre of Australia Day action in the City of Karratha last week.

Official events began in the morning with the Australia Day Awards, at which some of the City’s most dedicated residents were acknowledged for their contributions.

In the afternoon, the function room hosted the annual Australia Day citizenship ceremony. Some 62 new Australians made their pledges on the national day and were supported by a crowd of family, friends and community members.

The community-wide pool party from 4pm was packed with families and activities.

There were pool games, sports tournaments, and the Love Where You Live Expo, showcasing some of the latest community activities.

The Dampier Volunteer Fire Brigade also put on a barbecue as a fundraiser for bushfire victims in the South West and a juice bar kept guests refreshed.

The event finished with a traditional Australia Day fireworks display.

Community events were also held at aquatic centres and sports clubs in Onslow, Tom Price, Pannawonica and Paraburdoo, and in Exmouth at the Paltridge Memorial Pool and Exmouth Yacht Club.
