Expansion meets big demand for pet products
Pilbara Plants and Pets, formerly known as Poinciana Nursery, is undergoing renovations to expand their business.
Pet shop manager Aimee-lee Hollemans said the decision to rebrand came after they noticed a bigger demand for pet products.
“We have had a small pet shop for many years, and decided the time was right to build a big massive pet shop because the town needs it; the town’s expanding.
“More and more people were coming into the shop and enquiring about more range. It’s just time, because our shop is so little.”
They will also be teaming with animal rescue organisation SAFE to adopt out cats and dogs.
“We are wanting to be a proactive shop so yes, we will be having birds and fish and small animals like rabbits to sell but we don’t want to promote puppy farming and SAFE is such a big organisation in the area and we would rather rehome the animals we’ve got rather than sell more,” Ms Hollemans said. SAFE founder Sue He- dley said she was glad to have support from Pilbara Plants and Pets.
“I am heartened by the gesture this local business has made to support our cause,” she said.
“It is wonderful for the public to know that they can visit a pet store in Karratha and know that all the cats and dogs are rescue animals and that these animals have not come from ‘backyard breeders’.”
