Super clinic set for fit-out
Karratha’s GP Super Clinic is just weeks away from opening its doors to the public with construction of the $13 million facility now finished.
In a low-key event hosted at the new clinic on Monday afternoon, construction firm Doric handed over the keys to Karratha Central Healthcare, who will now complete the fit-out before opening doors to the public in the first week of March.
KCH chief executive Jo Halpin said to have the keys handed over on time was “exceptionally exciting”.
“You just walk in there and you think ‘wow’, at long last it is ours, it is actually there,” she said.
“I really want to say, we had 75-80 per cent of the tradesmen being local and they have done an absolutely wonderful job.
“Even though people live remotely, that doesn’t mean we should have remote health.”
Ms Halpin said the architecture and colour scheme had received high praise from the community since the fences came down.
The clinic features four areas: clinical, allied health, social and emotional wellbeing and corporate, as well as specific areas for Aboriginal health and chronic disease.
Ms Halpin said the clinic would aim to open with three doctors.
Doric general manager Lance van Drunick said the GP Super Clinic was a good example of how Doric used the local workforce when chosen to undertake projects in towns.
“It is Doric’s very great privilege to be handing over this much needed, state-of-the-art facility to the people of Karratha, and the Pil- bara,” he said. “We have very much enjoyed working with Pilbara Health Network on what will serve as a hub for medical practice with- in the region.” City of Karratha Mayor Peter long said he was pleased to see the new facility take its place in the CBD.
Mr Long said the City had been working hard to improve services in Karratha. An official opening will be held on March 30.
