Dead­line for Tidy Towns nom­i­na­tions

The count­down is on for the State’s re­gional towns and com­mu­ni­ties, which have un­til March 1 to reg­is­ter for this year’s Keep Aus­tralia Beau­ti­ful Coun­cil WA’s Tidy Towns Sus­tain­able Com­mu­ni­ties awards.

The awards recog­nise ac­tiv­i­ties such as re­cy­cling, wa­ter and waste, plant­ing na­tive trees and shrubs, pick­ing up lit­ter, com­mu­nity vol­un­teer­ing ef­forts, restor­ing his­tor­i­cal sites, erad­i­cat­ing weeds, eco-tourism, cul­tural tourism and men­tor­ing youth.

KABC WA chair­man Michael Aspinall said be­ing in­volved in the pro­gram was an up­lift­ing ex­pe­ri­ence and the reg­is­tra­tion process was sim­ple.

“Tidy Towns cel­e­brates re­gional com­mu­ni­ties that foster sus­tain­abil­ity and a lit­ter-free en­vi­ron­ment — so if this sounds like your com­mu­nity, we would be de­lighted to hear from you,” he said.

Fi­nal­ists are se­lected Statewide from the con­tent of their sub­mis­sions, are vis­ited by re- gional judges and as­sessed by a panel of State judges.

In WA, Tidy Towns is a Keep Aus­tralia Beau­ti­ful Coun­cil pro­gram and is sup­ported by the State Govern­ment’s Waste Au­thor­ity through the Waste Avoid­ance and Re­source Re­cov­ery Ac­count.
