Deadline for Tidy Towns nominations
The countdown is on for the State’s regional towns and communities, which have until March 1 to register for this year’s Keep Australia Beautiful Council WA’s Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities awards.
The awards recognise activities such as recycling, water and waste, planting native trees and shrubs, picking up litter, community volunteering efforts, restoring historical sites, eradicating weeds, eco-tourism, cultural tourism and mentoring youth.
KABC WA chairman Michael Aspinall said being involved in the program was an uplifting experience and the registration process was simple.
“Tidy Towns celebrates regional communities that foster sustainability and a litter-free environment — so if this sounds like your community, we would be delighted to hear from you,” he said.
Finalists are selected Statewide from the content of their submissions, are visited by re- gional judges and assessed by a panel of State judges.
In WA, Tidy Towns is a Keep Australia Beautiful Council program and is supported by the State Government’s Waste Authority through the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Account.
