Dampier parents will be pleased to hear a new childcare provider is preparing to start up in town, weeks after the previous operator announced its departure.

In late January, Pilbara Preparatory, the provider for Dampier Early Learning Centre, announced it would be closing its Dampier service on February 12, leaving parents without local childcare weeks before school resumed.

Last week, the City of Karratha announced that Montessori Early Years Learning and Care Centre, run by Jennifer Fox, has been selected as the town’s new provider and is undergoing approvals.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said he was pleased there had been such a quick turnaround.

“Jennifer Fox is well known to the Dampier community, having been the director of a previous childcare centre, and many parents will be looking forward to her new business commencing operations,” he said.

“There are a lot of young families living and working in Dampier who rely on childcare services and while it will take some time to get the new service up and running, we anticipate the community will only be without childcare for a couple of weeks.”

The service will be located at 11 Roe Street and will move into the new Dampier Community Hub when building is finished, as Pilbara Preparatory was set to do.
