Work on oval sports facility to start soon
Construction work on the multipurpose sports facility planned for Tambrey Oval in Karratha is set to begin within months.
The City of Karratha reported designs for the Tambrey Pavilion project would be confirmed by the end of this month, with construction to start soon after.
The entire project is scheduled to be finished in October.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the western end of Karratha was overdue for a sports facility like this.
“The Tambrey Oval is the only active recreation space in Karratha where currently there are no change room or pavilion facilities provided on-site for users,” he said.
“The Tambrey Pavilion will remedy this; providing the same level of amenity afforded to the eastern end of Karratha and surrounding towns.”
The pavilion project has been in the works since August 2014, with Pindan Contracting awarded the pavilion design and construction contract in December.
It is being funded by the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund and Pilbara Development Commission’s Pilbara Regional Grants Scheme.
Mr Long said council expected the pavilion to become a hub for sports groups as well as other organisations wanting to use the space for community activities.
Department of Sport and Recreation Pilbara regional manager Brendan Cullinan said it also presented a “great opportunity” for residents wanting to get more exercise and connect with other people in the community.
The pavilion will include a community hall, change rooms, storeroom, kitchenette, and outdoor shaded area.
