Thousands of WA resources companies, explorers and prospectors have benefited from record-breaking approval processing times, according to the Department of Mines and Petroleum.

Announcing WA’s best quarter for mineral title approval speeds, Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion said it highlighted the success of the Government’s red tape reduction campaign.

He said the red tape reforms saved operators time and money and led to swifter job creation, while maintaining responsible regulation of the industry.

Mr Marmion said in the December quarter, the department approved 91 per cent of mining lease applications within 65 business days and 92 per cent of mining proposal applications in 30 days.

He added that all Petroleum Environment Plans submitted to the DMP were approved within 30 calendar days.

“The department has surpassed its target of finalising more than 80 per cent of applications within those timelines,” Mr Marmion said. “The department is on track to cut time-consuming paperwork to nil by performing all of its operations online this year.”
