Racing kicked off for 2016 at the Karratha Kart Club last Saturday with 21 competitors braving the heat and humidity to lay down the first rubber for the year.

The Cadet 9 junior class was a close battle between Lincoln Drew and Connor Grey with Drew eventually taking the honours.

In only his second race meeting, Donny Davis impressed, finishing third overall.

The TAG 125 senior class received a healthy boost in numbers as a number of competitors graduated from the Restricted 125 class.

Racing was hard-fought all night with three different winners over the four races.

Controversy struck in the final race when both front-row drivers failed to start the race.

Chris Smith mainly benefited, eventually finishing on top for the night ahead of Adam Sinclair and Steve Kasemets.

The Restricted 125 class provided equally good viewing with plenty of overtaking and wheel rubbing.

Newcomer Hayden Cartwright couldn’t believe his luck when he took the lead in the final race after a Bradbury-esque opportunity presented itself early.

This was short-lived, however, as Steve Kasemets fought back for the win but finished second on points overall behind Anthony Beach.
