Cup highlights young talent
Children aged from 11-17 from all over the Pilbara headed to Newman late last month to take part in the AFL Pilbara Cup.
The AFL Pilbara Cup is an annual round robin fixture held on February 21 and 22 that showcases the best junior players in the region.
The cup has three divisions; Years 6 and 7, Years 8 and 9 and under-18s, with participants selected from Karratha, Hedland, Fortescue, Roe- bourne, Newman, and, for the first time, Onslow.
The aim of the Pilbara Cup is to launch the 2016 Strength 2 Succeed Academy.
The young players will be selected for the academy by the V Swans selection panel, based on performance, behaviour at school and positive contributions to the community.
Players from the Years 6/7 division were also treated to a specialised coaching session from V Swans coaches Kaiden Matera, Shane Beros and Beau McDonald.
