Dry spell continues for Pilbara except Paraburdoo
The long dry continues for the Pilbara coast with no seaside station between Pardoo and Exmouth recording more than 5mm for the month of February.
Exmouth received just a touch over at 5.6mm and Pardoo received 11.4mm.
Of the major population centres Karratha Aero recorded 2.2mm, Port Hedland Airport 0.6mm and Onslow Airport 4.2mm.
It is the eighth time less than 2.5mm has fallen in February in Karratha since 1973, five of which have occurred in years since 2003. There hasn’t been much relief inland either, with Newman’s 8.6mm well below the February average of 41.5mm.
After a January which saw nearly five times its average rainfall, Paraburdoo Aero recorded just 3.4mm for Febru- ary. Despite this, Paraburdoo has enjoyed the wettest start to a year since 2012 with 166.8mm by the end of February.
Warrawagine Station near Marble Bar recorded 5.8mm, 10 percent of its February average.
