Dry spell con­tin­ues for Pil­bara ex­cept Parabur­doo

The long dry con­tin­ues for the Pil­bara coast with no sea­side sta­tion be­tween Par­doo and Ex­mouth record­ing more than 5mm for the month of Fe­bru­ary.

Ex­mouth re­ceived just a touch over at 5.6mm and Par­doo re­ceived 11.4mm.

Of the ma­jor pop­u­la­tion cen­tres Kar­ratha Aero recorded 2.2mm, Port Hed­land Air­port 0.6mm and Onslow Air­port 4.2mm.

It is the eighth time less than 2.5mm has fallen in Fe­bru­ary in Kar­ratha since 1973, five of which have oc­curred in years since 2003. There hasn’t been much re­lief in­land ei­ther, with New­man’s 8.6mm well below the Fe­bru­ary av­er­age of 41.5mm.

Af­ter a Jan­uary which saw nearly five times its av­er­age rain­fall, Parabur­doo Aero recorded just 3.4mm for Fe­bru- ary. De­spite this, Parabur­doo has en­joyed the wettest start to a year since 2012 with 166.8mm by the end of Fe­bru­ary.

War­rawagine Sta­tion near Mar­ble Bar recorded 5.8mm, 10 per­cent of its Fe­bru­ary av­er­age.
