Anglers brave blustery conditions in fish pursuit
The State’s premier fishing competition has well and truly begun, with anglers braving blustery conditions in pursuit of GAMEX glory.
Once again the weather gods decided GAMEX was a good time to kick up a breeze, though not as serious as last year when the event was cancelled because of a cyclone bearing down on the coast.
The week-long fishing tournament was launched with a concert night at the Exmouth Game Fishing Club where Minnie Marks, Pop Standen and Phil Emmanuel got the crowd on their feet.
Eamon Sullivan’s long table luncheon was hosted the next day before the wait was finally over as lines went in on Sun- day morning despite the strong winds.
More than 50 boats are out on the water targeting a wide variety of species including billfish. The final weigh in will be from 6pm this Friday, with presentations to be held the following night.
