City precinct to feature in festival relay
Karratha residents and visitors will finally see the long-awaited Quarter precinct at this year’s Red Dog Festival.
Event organisers have been working closely with developers LandCorp and the City of Karratha to combine the festival’s relay, welcome and finale with the opening of the Quarter.
Red Dog Festival event orga- niser Peter Kay said the longterm future of the event had been secured by the support from LandCorp and the Quarter.
“This year we looked at the event from a different angle and reconfigured some of the components of the event which we think is a great improvement in terms of where we’re going,” he said.
LandCorp’s Travis McNaught said at the Red Dog Relay launch on March 15 that the focus was to attract more people into Karratha’s city centre.
“We were looking at events which we could jump on board with and Red Dog Festival stood out,” he said.
“We’re pleased that Peter Kay has been able to tweak the relay leg so we’re going to finish in the city centre outside the Quarter and the plan is that we’ll have the official opening of the Quarter on the WA Day long weekend.”
