Songs inspired by region
Regional WA musicians Chris Matthews and Kev Lymn made sure Pilbara audiences were kept entertained on the Easter long weekend when they stopped by on their west coast tour.
Kununurra musician Matthews and South West singer Lymn have been performing their brand of country, folk and blues music at venues across the region for the past week to promote their new individual albums.
They have played in Marble Bar, Whim Creek and Wickham so far and will be performing in Exmouth tonight and Coral Bay tomorrow before heading south to the Gascoyne.
Matthews said he and long-time friend Lymn had performed together in the North West before and their musical styles worked well together onstage.
“I first met Kev back in 2003 when we did a nationwide tour with the Australian Songwriters Association,” he said.
“We’d swap instruments and vocal duties more often than we’d change our clothes, and over that time became fantastic mates and great admirers of each other’s music.
“I’m really looking forward to reuniting that musical spark and playing and jamming old tunes and new together.”
Frequent tourer Matthews said he had performed in the West Pilbara about 20 times before and his songwriting was inspired by the North West.
He said Pilbara audiences could expect variety, improvisation and a lot of fun from the pair’s shows.
“Between us we’ll have a bunch of different six and 12-string acoustic guitars, a few mandolins, my Fender Telecaster electric guitar, harmonicas, lap steel guitars, a bit of fiddle or violin, a stomp box or two, some foot percussion, and also a little bit of banjo picking,” he said.
